This was the first international team I joined this year, with my favorite genre which is Sci-Fi! This team was smaller but more functional, everyone did their relative tasks with a high level of professionalism. This was a really exciting set for me to work on with a senior cinematographer that has done years of work for the BBC, how cool is that! And he was also the Gaffer at the same time, that’s dedication right there. I also met a familiar crew member of this set from Archive Live who worked alongside me when rigging up the lights at the start of the day.

In this film-set I was the 1st AC, but I also helped in rigging the lights, set up the video village and also the battery charging station. During the planning I was planning to do focus pulling but we had a set of Sony GM lenses for the FX6 which don’t have the cine gears, which made my job a little easier. Even though the filmset was mostly in darkness, it was also quite humid and warm. Also my partner was involved for the first time as the props master, he owns a lot of retro sci-fi looking stuff.

What made the production run so smoothly was the clear communication among the crew on intercom headsets from Hollyland. Which I think is a must in any film production. I need to get a set of those someday.

Also the catering was amazing, we had 3 meals with Eastern European hospitality, it was a big amount of food and multiple choices which kept the crew morale high under the time crunch we had.

The estimated wrap-up time was 22:30 but we wrapped up at 18:00, just before dinner! This went soo smooth!

We received 2 nominations in best sound design and best art direction at the 48H FP Rotterdam awards ceremony!

My next 48H Film Project challenge will be in Eindhoven, end of October! I’ll continue to sign up for more 48H FPs in the near future!
