Rouwstand
This was a cold and wet filmset to begin with, most of us arrived on-site at De Paauw in Zaandam, the only working hemp windmill in the world! We filmed 3 scenes during this short, on the wet farm field where there’s also a risk to step in cow-pat everywhere as well. The balcony area of the windmill and also inside the mill. Also the sound recordist had to face the most annoying challenge, the constant airplanes approaching Schipol Airport nearby. Every 2 mins we heard plane engines soaring across the skies, it surely was annoying, but we managed to time it right each take!
I joined the Pink Duck as a 2AC again with this really professional team of 29 people total, largest edition! I got to work with seasoned professionals within the camera & electrical department!
This movie was shot on a Canon C300 Mark III with 2 Sigma Cine Zooms; 18-35mm T2 & 50-100mm T2. Although my main tasks was to setup the video village, charging station and the important data handling station for exports and backups! The only technical issue I ran into in this production was the really slow and unstable copying speeds to the backup SSD which then was handed to the rough cut editor when he arrived!
The main challenge everyone faced at the set was how cold it was, the windmill itself only has one room with a heater on, the rest was freezing cold, some of us didn’t bring any wellies so we had to work with wet feet, although at least I could find the time to dry my socks and shoes while checking all battery statuses between takes. We had plenty of batteries to swap at least both NPF and V-Mount of high and medium capacities! And also all kinds of battery chargers available!
As always it was a pleasure to work with Pink Duck Productions again! Always a great experience and also great way to network with industry professionals!
